The CSA mark shows compliance with both Canadian standards as well as other standards such as UL.
CSA started in the early 1900’s as the Canadian Engineering Standards Association, which was a group federally chartered to create standards. This group brought many standards to law, including the Canadian Electrical Code. In 1944, the group was renamed the Canadian Standards Association and the CSA mark was introduced shortly after, in 1946.
The CSA mark is similar to the ETL mark in that it shows compliance with both Canadian standards as well as certifying to other standards such as UL. The mark shown for this article, with the C and US letters on either side, means that the product was tested based on a prior agreement with UL, and is certified for use both in Canada and the United States.
